I am distraught, I am the victim of hacker!
My hotmail/msn messenger login has been stolen, I have for some years now had the hotmail address - king@hotmail.co.uk, which i won in a eBay charity auction (for NSPCC).
The address regularly attracts attention of hackers, I get frequent emails in my Hotmail ‘Reset your windows live password now’, not to mention at 10 people a day randomly adding me either to see who has the address or by mistake!
So how did they do it? Being in our business all our workstations are locked down, firewalled, security patched, anti-virussed, anti-spywared up to the hind teeth, so a workstation compromise seems unlikely.
The perpetrator (by all accounts a 19yr old Egyptian male), who has been boasting to my contacts about how ‘he works for msn, and has hacked my account’, by all accounts achieved this by the most artistic form of hacking ’social engineering’.
‘Social engineering’, basically means he has convinced someone at MS Live to reset my account password, thus gaining him access to my account. He has then gone on to change the other pieces of information (secret phrase, alternate email address), thus stopping me resetting it back.
So I am in the annoying stage at the moment where someone else is logged onto my messenger, and I can’t do anything about it until MS sort it out. BOO!

Microsoft and Hotmail say theyre not helping me out on this one!

I know how a hacker thinks and I used to be one but some of your msn and hotmails weren’t really hacked there is this popular program called “IceCold Reloaded” It will lock msn and hotmail accounts it really does work but that is the number one cause of loss of msn and hotmail accounts so you really have no protection agenst this program. But Once your account is locked it’s locked forever (unless the hacker is kind of nough to unlock it) but yes like I said.

Thanks to all the advice I picked up here I was able to get my hotmail and ebay accounts back. Use the links that Ben has suggested and with a bit of time and patience you should get your accounts back.
First he hacked my hotmail and changed my password and then he got to my ebay, changed my password then tried to sell stuff. Luckily ebay stopped the auction.
The hacker was from Hong Kong and called jianying xiao and this is his email address yusongke@126.com
I now have new and varied passwords for my different accounts so I am hoping this will keep things secure.
Does anyone know how they get you in the first place?? I want to protect myself from this happening again.

Hi, Please help I don’t i know what to do ? I was in am msn chat with a friend who advised me not to click on a link they had recieved whoblockedyou.net / or com as they thought it was hackers. I was on my laptop n it started to freeze up and accidently opened this link then a lit fag came on my msn message box and a 5 min count down ! I quickly shut everything down did a virus scan etc. I went upstairs to my main computor and opened my internet explorer and on the facebook login page it said ” Warning facebook has detected a possible hacker change your password now ” Do i trust it and change all my passwords ??? Or is it the hackers ??? How do i contact Facebook without signing on ??? I ud just cry i really don’t know what to do for the best ?

Big thanks to Terry (Nov 24th) for advice on changing language back from Chinese to English. some advice for others – the Options tab is to the left of the question mark. Click the 8th blue link down the page and from there you can select English and click ok (the left of the 2 buttons at the bottom right of the page).

My hotmail account has been hacked into and someone has been sending pics of me and asking other men and women if they want to meet for sex pretending to be me, they have also gorne on to web sites and advertised me for a meet for sex.
How could of they done this?
Can I prove someone has done this?
Another thing is they used all the passwords that I use on these dating sites….. wierd

on both the 12th and 13th march, my hotmail account got hacked into. two seperate emails were sent at different times to all my contacts. unfortunately for me, they contained personal pictures which i had sent to my boyfriend months ago. they have not changed my passwords or secret questions. all they have done is logged in, sent two emails, at two different times. then deleted these from the sent box and the deleted box. told hotmail. anything i can do to track down the hacker?

Hiya there,
Sorry to hear about your issue.
This is not typical hotmail hacking that we see in this blog, I suspect this is someone who knows you, probably who either has access to a machine where your hotmail is allowed to be opened without a password, or they know your password.
You will be able to identify the IP address that it was sent from by examing the header of one of the sent emails (i.e. to someone who received it).

thank you. looked at the messages, unfortunately i cant find an IP address. any clues how to find out. i’ve emailed Hotmail. also my parents want me to go to the police. what do you think. only problem is, images which were sent are of me, and i dont want the police to see them.

found 3 IP addresses. two have come up with ‘Redmond Washington’ a city in North America. the X originating IP is supposedly from Amsterdam.

nope. the x-originating IP also says that its British Telecommunications in London. but the other two always come up with the same place. so unfortunately for me, i have been a victim but very little can be done. i have told Hotmail i have been hacked, and will mention the IP’s maybe they can do something. thank you for the help.

Thank you so much for all the advice on this site. Managed to get my hotmail up and running 24hours after it was hacked into. In that time however the hacker did manage to get onto my ebay, twice, and made fraud listings. As with hotmail, ebay was easy enough to get sorted. There were two separate hackers – one from Asia and the other Netherlands.
Think I shall be ditching the hotmail asap if its this easy for someone to hack into it!

My hotmail has been hacked from someone in China. First my contacts disappeared / were erased. Then my hotmail account sent emails to my contacts trying to sell random items from an ebay-esque site that used the same typeface as ebay.. Now my password has been changed and the secret question has been changed and is in Chinese. I presume that the alternative email has been changed also, but I dont think I have this email anyway as it was set up a long time ago. I have contacted hotmail so will hopefully re-gain access but I am migrating to another email company. I think the hacker has tried to obtain ebay usid so I have amended the email details on that.. Quite annoying as got loads of old emails and a few online receipts etc, but finding hotmail not v user friendly over time… big invasion of privacy, but sign of times and can be expected when using net regularly…. hah, i just got hacked few days ago too by huasheng578@yahoo.com. Emailed the hotmail web assistance and they’ve reset my password and i’ve got back my mail. BUT my emails are all wiped out by that fucker. Its a China piece of shit. China people go fuck your mother piece of shit. Anyway, do change ur password to a strong one.

Yep its happened to me too. I’ve done the usual stuff to get it back. How long do microsoft take when you fill in the validation. I didnt have a alternative address yet it wouldn’t let me leave it blank.
Is there another way of contactnig them, i really need that account back!!

I bought a parking camera from Hong Kong on E Bay. I sent them an e mail asking for wiring instructions and they sent them back as an attachment. From then on, everything turned to chinese ,and for two weeks we have had this problem. We contacted Microsoft, but they did not seem able to help. This blog site has enabled us to correct our problem, but why didn’t MSN tell us that other users are having the same problem , they must be aware of these chinese hackers.

this past weekend i’ve been having many problems with my account.
I first found out my msn got hacked into, they changed my name, pm dp and everything. It was all like ‘YOU’VE BEEN HACKED!’
I later found out that they also hacked my myspace and bebo, eventhough my passwords arnt even the same.
Does anyone know if it is even possible for one single person to do this, or if it is a computer automated system, i’m so confused, i want all my stuff back lol.

MSN and Hotmail don’t help me much after 24 hours of struggling to reset the password then I got many phone calls and emails at different address from many friends who were concerned about me being robbed in London, England that every thing including luggages and money was stolen at the same time, asking for $2,500 sent by Western Union to cover the hotel bills and plane ticket on the email signed with my full name which was done by con artist/scammer. I called MSN and got around in the loophole for 2 hours. I called the police that I could not be helped as its a different matter. Suppose if somebody broked into my house; messed up my personal stuff; used my personal addresses and phone numbers of my friends, family and business associates as imposter (ID thief) and stolen everything what I had stored for years, it is a crime, right? what about the break in acct? its a crime to me as my health is wacked out from stresses, worries and negative energy as to answer all the phone calls and emails from people who were scammed by the same hacker who used my email address. How about international crime stopper? Isn’t any there on Earth?

Does anyone know if hotmail keeps a record of the IP address of the person who logs into the email acccount.
Do they keep logs of all logins on all email accounts?
If you can track the IP address you can find the Hacker….

My account has been hacked and my cv and bank details where stored in it out of good trust for hotmail and now some weirdo maybe commiting fraud and signing me up to all kinds of dodgey shit. I have emailed hotmail and will give them three days to sort this out and take action against the hacker. but if this hasnt happend then im going to have to get police involvment
If anyone is able to get my email address back for me i will be gratefull and this will save me a lot of stress and anxiety at night even sleepless nights because of this

My hotmail account was just hacked. I have a good idea of who did it. I can’t find the IP adress even though I’ve tried to obtain it several time by viewing the source. Will Hotmail give me the user’s IP address if I email them? Could I use that IP address to take to the police so I can charge whoever broke into my account?

Yeah my hotmail account appears to have been hacked as well. I too had the issue of thinking that I typed my password incorrectly and when I tried to reset my password using the secret question the question was in chinese…when translated it asks for grandfathers employment…a question I never set up?
I called microsoft here in Australia and they were helpful up to a point, they gave us a number to the ninemsn help desk which only helps paid members but the microsoft dude thought they may help due to my situation…nope because I’m not a member they couldn’t help us even though they had the tools right in front of them to resolve the issue?
Is there anyway, apart from becoming a full member and logging a ticket job on hotmail help site??
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

My hotmail and ebay accounts were hacked over the weekend. Today I managed to get back into the account after going through the full verification process with Microsoft, and changed my password. Job done I thought, but when I tried to log back in (on a different pc) 1.5hrs later the bloody password has been changed again!
Can anyone help me understand what is happening, and how I can stop this cycle of having to spend 3 days waiting to change details with Microsfot only for a hacker to reset things after an hour?

I have control of my hotmail account again!! ARRRR!!!!!!
From the moment I logged the job with the helpdesk using the help function within hotmail, the validation process and the rectification of my account, the whole process too a little under 3 days! I find this impressive considering that the help desk is based in the US and I am based here in Australia!!!

My hotmail account and ebay account have also been hacked. I came home from church this morning and tried to log in, it won’t let me log in except saying “invalid password.” I tried everything to reset my password but then my secre question was or changed in spanish. WTF. I called ebay and changed my password and logged in and guess what, wtf I am selling a superbowl ticket. After I finished talking with ebay customer service, I tried searching for some info about hotmail account hackers and softwares, then came up with nothing. I have sent an email to hotmail support center, but I guess I am gonna have to wait and see. Please!! I really need my account! I have so much important stuff in my account..T.T… Any helpful tip would be nice.
